Alberto Out, New Storm In

Kris Posman

Well, Mother Nature always gets her way.  She doesn't follow a calendar either!

For the first time ever, a tropical storm has formed in both the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific before the official June 1st start of the hurricane season.

WEATHER HEADLINES

1.  TROPICAL STORM ALBERTO MOVES OUT INTO THE ATLANTIC

2.  A NEW STORM APPROACHES FROM THE WEST

3.  A CHANCE OF SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THURSDAY

First let's start with Alberto...there is still a moderate risk of rip currents at our area beaches, but other than that...Alberto is no longer affecting our coast.  Alberto is expected to move off to the northeast and out to sea.

What comes next is a storm system from the west.  This storm system will move into the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry on Tuesday.  It will then get stuck right over us on both Wednesday and Thursday.  It will finally move out on Friday.

So for tonight, expect isolated showers and thunderstorms during the evening hours.  Most of us will stay dry overnight with a few clouds from time to time.  With light south winds, we will drop to lows in the mid 60s for inland areas and near 70 at the coast.

On Tuesday, we will have a mix of sun and clouds.  Later in the day, scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop.  Decent instability is in place, so this means a few storms could be strong to severe.  With southwest winds, it will be a very warm day with highs in the mid to upper 80s for inland areas and near 80 at the coast.

On Wednesday and Thursday, expect scattered showers and thunderstorms (especially later in the afternoon and evening).  It will stay very warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Finally by Friday, a drier weather pattern should take over our forecast.  With mostly sunny skies, highs will stay in the upper 80s.

For the holiday weekend...it is looking mainly dry right now with highs in the upper 80s for inland areas and the lower 80s at the coast.  A slight chance of shower or thunderstorm could return on Monday for Memorial Day.

Stay tuned to STORM TEAM 3.

Keep Looking Up!
